Estudiantes de Morton East salen a la calle como señal de protesta a los cortes de maestros y programas

El presupuesto escolar se define en la junta del 10 de Marzo

Cicero, Illinois (NED).– Estudiantes acompañados por maestros de la escuela secundaria Morton East de Cicero salieron a la calle en señal de protesta a los cortes de programas y maestros que se quieren hacer en las escuelas.

            En la última reunión del concilio escolar de Morton West de Berwyn y Morton East de Cicero, se dio a conocer que el déficit por el que atraviesa el Estado de Illinois y toda la nación los ha llevado a tener que hacer recortes en tanto del personal docente como de programas para los estudiantes. Situación que molesto a padres, alumnos y maestros que inmediato protestaron. Sin embargo la situación no se definirá hasta este martes 10 de Marzo cuando nuevamente se reúnan los miembros de la Junta Educativa, el concilio de padres, maestros y alumnos para votar.

            Los alumnos de Morton comenzaron a enviarse textos desde el fin de semana proyectando salirse de las clases en señal de protesta a los cambios que desean hacer para nivelar el presupuesto de las escuelas.

            Varios maestros que apoyaron la protesta manifestaron que el reducir personal académico perjudicaría terriblemente a los estudiantes de las escuelas de Cicero y Berwyn, ya que de por si tienen un nivel sumamente bajo a nivel estatal, si reducen el número de maestros sería terrible para su futuro.

            Varios estudiantes de segundo grado de high school manifestaron que de hacerse los recortes a ellos les afectaría mucho, pues tendrían que conformarse con acudir a colegios comunitarios porque no estarían preparados para las universidades.

            Por su parte los padres quieren que los representantes de estos suburbios los apoyen luchando en la Cámara de Representantes y el Senado en Springfield para lograr que Cicero y Berwyn tengan una verdadera representación, particularmente porque el Senador Martín Sandoval así como la Representante Lisa Hernández saben de los problemas académicos que tiene Cicero en particular. Ellos esperan que estén presentes ambos representantes en la próxima reunión.

            El periódico EL DIA recibió varias llamadas el martes 2 de Marzo, alertando sobre la protesta que terminó siendo una marcha pacífica. Por su parte los oficiales de la policía de Cicero les pedían que regresaran a sus aulas.

Students of Morton East walkout of class to protest about teacher and school activities cuts

School budget will be discussed and voted on at the March 10th school board meeting

Cicero, Illinois (NED).- Students accompanied by teacher of Morton East High School of Cicero went out to the street to protest the cuts of programs and teachers that want to be done in schools.

            At the last school board meeting of Morton East & West High Schools it was brought to light that the deficit in all of the state of Illinois and the entire nation has made them had to make these cuts of school programs and teachers.  This didn’t sit well with parents, students and teachers that immediately protested.   Nevertheless this situation will not be decided on until March 10th when members of the school board, parents, teachers and students will meet again and vote on it. 

            Morton students began sending text messages since this past weekend about walking out of class to protest the changes that are being discussed to level out the school budget. 

            Many teachers supported the protest and said that by reducing personal will hurt students of Cicero and Berwyn dramatically.  They already have a very low state school level and reducing teachers will be terrible for the future. 

            Many sophomore students manifested that by making these cuts will affect them greatly, they would have to attend community colleges because they won’t be prepared for a university. 

            On their part, parents want representatives of these suburbs to come out and support them fighting at the Illinois General Assembly in Springfield to help achieve that Cicero and Berwyn have true representation, particularly because Senator Martin Sandoval and Representative Lisa Hernandez know about the academic problems that Cicero has in particular.  Parents hope that these representatives will be present at the next meeting.

            EL Dia Newspaper received many calls this past Tuesday March 2nd alerting us about the protest that ended up becoming a peaceful march.  On their part Cicero Police asked students to return to their classes.
